HMRC says it’s one of the world’s most phished brands

Look out for email invitations to claim refunds, etc. Thousands of taxpayers are targeted by fraudulent companies or individuals, who use bogus emails and links to try and access tax records.

HMRC says it has closed 22,210 fake websites since 2014! With the Government announcing plans to make all taxation digital by the year 2020, the problem will only get worse.

Many of the phishing emails use links that are very close to genuine HMRC addresses, so please be very careful if you receive any communication of this sort.

If you are in any doubt about your position in relation to this issue, please talk to your usual Thomas Croft contact as soon as possible.
